Jack is a lovely name. On it's on own. Or as a nickname for John. I prefer it as a nickname. However.. Jack can be a silly name depending on the last name it is paired with. Actress Anna Faris just had a baby boy and named him Jack. The Father is Chris Pratt. The kid is named Jack Pratt. I immediately thought of Jack Spratt. I wonder if they still teach nursery rhymes to kids these days.

Good and Bad

Kourtney Kardashian's baby is here! It's a girl! Penelope Scotland Disick. I was so shocked by Penelope that Scotland didn't register with me immediately. Scotland is gross.  Penelope is lovely. Not bad by Hollywood standards. I just hope they don't call her Scotland or Scottie.

Anyone looking forward to finding out what Kourtney Kardashian names baby number 2? Like it or not, the public seems to love naming their own children after celebrity babies. Kourtney names her son Mason and a couple of years later the name is ranked # 2 in the country. Mason was a name that was always popular but not to that extent. I think she will choose a similar name like Cooper or Murphy. Whatever name she chooses it will most likely see a surge in popularity.

Briella grew the most for girls. It jumped up 394 places in one year. Does anyone know where the name comes from? A TV show? A movie?

Brantley jumped 416 places in one year for a boy. There is a newly popular country singer named Brantley Gilbert. Maybe that's where they're getting it from.  I went to school with a girl named Brantley. Yuck!

Zaiden jumped 131 spots for boys.

Kamden jumped 109 for boys.

Bruce jumped up 62 spots. How random!

Nylah jumped up 149 spots for girls.

Raelynn jumped up 133 spots for girls.

I am so sick of celebrities giving male names to girls. It isn't cute. It isn't unique. I think she's the third celeb this year to give the name Max to her daughter. Max can be a nickname for Maxine, but Max or Maxwell on a girl is just gross. She claims Maxwell is a family name on the father's side.  What if the family name was Elizabeth or Esther? They certainly wouldn't give those names to a boy. I just don't understand it. The baby's full name is Maxwell Drew Johnson. Ugh. So feminine, right?

Shenik and Shenequa. Names of sisters on The Maury Show. Their brother is Richard. Why do the guys always get normal names? So sad. 


There was another woman on the show named Synthia. Way to ruin a nice name.

Baby Name Regrets

More parents are starting to regret the names they have chosen for their children. I think too many parents are going with names that they like but the names don't have personal meaning. People used to name their kids after family. Now they name their kids after reality TV stars. It might seem cool for the moment but a trendy name will die out. A name that has special meaning will always hold a special place in your heart.

Celeb Babies!

Actress Shannyn Sossamon had a son recently and named him Mortimer. What do you think? Is that an improvement over her 8 year old son's name? His name is Audio Science. Mortimer is a legit name of course. It doesn't sound very attractive. I'd rather be a Mortimer than an Audio Science. 

Jeremy Sisto and his wife recently welcomed a son named Bastian Kick. I like Bastian as a nickname for Sebastian. Kick is just dumb. Jeremy's daughter is named Charlie-Ballerina.  Which is worse? I think the girl's name is worse. Why Ballerina? Is that what they want her to be? What if she hates dancing? I don't get it. 

Jessica Simpson is due with a baby girl soon. I am afraid of what she might name her kid. Jessica has said that it is not a typical name but you can find it in the dictionary.

Is this bad?

Jason Bateman and his wife Amanda named their daughter Maple Sylvie. I don't like the name. I don't think it's that horrible considering other celebrity baby names. Maple makes me think of Maple Syrup. Especially paired with an "S" middle name. I do love Sylvie though. Jason and Amanda have another daughter named Francesca Nora. That name is gorgeous.

So sorry it's so late! I have a wonderfully horrible name for you all. It's not a baby name. This man choose this name for himself. He was born Jeffrey Drew Wilschke which is a respectable name. He changed it to Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop!

I've noticed several recent articles about upcoming baby name trends. It seems like people pull these names from out of thin air. It's almost impossible to predict baby naming trends. Especially bad baby names. Some names do seem to come from nowhere at first until you dig a little deeper. Most popular names(especially bad names) come from pop culture. People do name their children after their favorite actors, TV characters, athletes etc. To try to predict the future you have to look at the past or at current naming trends. The name Bentley came from the popularity of the MTV show Teen Mom where likable Teen Mom, Maci named her son Bentley. Bentley rose 101 spots in 1 year. Maci has actually gone up over 200 spots in 1 year. Be on the look out for baby girls named Monroe thanks to Mariah Carey naming her daughter Monroe. Her son is named Moroccan aka Roc. Monroe is Roe. Finley is another male name becoming popular for girls thanks to several celebs using that name for their daughters. Paisley is on the rise for girls. I assume it's due to the popularity of country singer Brad Paisley. A popular trend in bad baby naming is changing one letter of a popular name to create an even uglier trendy name. Examples: Zayden, Payden, Rayden and even Layden. Presley is another name on the rise for girls. I guess this generation has forgotten than Elvis Presley was a man! Be aware that that the SSA does not account for different spellings so Maci is spelled Macy, Macee, Maycee etc and is even more popular than it appears. If you know someone who is thinking of using a horrible name for their baby, mention how popular the name really is if you take into account the spellings. Encourage them to google the name so they can see it isn't really all that original. Maybe you can save a child from enduring a lifetime with an embarrassing name.
