Is this bad?
Jason Bateman and his wife Amanda named their daughter Maple Sylvie. I don't like the name. I don't think it's that horrible considering other celebrity baby names. Maple makes me think of Maple Syrup. Especially paired with an "S" middle name. I do love Sylvie though. Jason and Amanda have another daughter named Francesca Nora. That name is gorgeous.

Blue Ivy
That is the name of Jay-Z and Beyonce's baby girl. What do you think? I like Ivy. I hate Blue. Ivy Blue would have been better.
Happy New Year!
So sorry it's so late! I have a wonderfully horrible name for you all. It's not a baby name. This man choose this name for himself. He was born Jeffrey Drew Wilschke which is a respectable name. He changed it to Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop!
Of course he's a criminal........

2012
I've noticed several recent articles about upcoming baby name trends. It seems like people pull these names from out of thin air. It's almost impossible to predict baby naming trends. Especially bad baby names. Some names do seem to come from nowhere at first until you dig a little deeper. Most popular names(especially bad names) come from pop culture. People do name their children after their favorite actors, TV characters, athletes etc. To try to predict the future you have to look at the past or at current naming trends. The name Bentley came from the popularity of the MTV show Teen Mom where likable Teen Mom, Maci named her son Bentley. Bentley rose 101 spots in 1 year. Maci has actually gone up over 200 spots in 1 year. Be on the look out for baby girls named Monroe thanks to Mariah Carey naming her daughter Monroe. Her son is named Moroccan aka Roc. Monroe is Roe. Finley is another male name becoming popular for girls thanks to several celebs using that name for their daughters. Paisley is on the rise for girls. I assume it's due to the popularity of country singer Brad Paisley. A popular trend in bad baby naming is changing one letter of a popular name to create an even uglier trendy name. Examples: Zayden, Payden, Rayden and even Layden. Presley is another name on the rise for girls. I guess this generation has forgotten than Elvis Presley was a man! Be aware that that the SSA does not account for different spellings so Maci is spelled Macy, Macee, Maycee etc and is even more popular than it appears. If you know someone who is thinking of using a horrible name for their baby, mention how popular the name really is if you take into account the spellings. Encourage them to google the name so they can see it isn't really all that original. Maybe you can save a child from enduring a lifetime with an embarrassing name.

Maury Strikes Again
A man named Andre appeared on The Maury Show today. Andre was spelled Undra. LOL! I would never guess that Undra was supposed to be Andre.

Backwards
What do you think of names spelled backwards? I hate it. I've heard of Semaj (seh MAHJ) for James. Nomar for Ramon and Trebor for Robert. I label these as bad names.

Twilight
Someone actually named their daughter Renesmee. Renesmee is the invented name from the Twilight series. Edward and Bella have a daughter and give her this atrocious name after their Mother's names. It's a combo of Renee and Esmee. I admit it. I actually like Twilight. I don't think it's great literature but I enjoyed it. The thing I hated the most about the series was that name. It's just ugly beyond belief. What is wrong with people?

Diesel Daigle
Terrible, right? Yikes! Diesel is dumb enough on its own. Combined with a rhyming surname it's unbearable. Jennie Finch and Casey Daigle named their son Diesel. Diesel's older brother is Ace Shane. BTW, Diesel's middle name is Dean. LOL Jennie Finch is an olympic softball player and her husband is an MLB pitcher.

Changes in Popularity
The SSA now keeps a list of names that are rapidly changing in popularity. Up or down. It's sad that parents these days apparently look to reality TV for baby name inspirations. The two names that jumped the highest for boys and girls come MTV's Teen Mom. Maci for a girl and her son's name, Bentley. Some of the names on this list are actually nice, but they are inspired by TV, movies or celeb's children. What ever happened to naming children after relatives? People always send me e-mails claiming that they named their daughter Jackson because it's "unique" or their son Knox because it's different and cool. Millions of other people watch the same shows, see the same movies as you do. Trust me, you're won't be the only one who names their kid Monroe or Moroccan. Why not take a name from your own person family tree? If you name your son or daughter after a relative, you will have a name that truly means something and the name most likely won't be too popular. No attractive names in your family tree? Try a different version of that name. Go with a name from a favorite book. Name your children after someone who inspires you. Anything is better than naming your child after a reality TV celeb.

My favorite day!
The most popular names list of 2010 has finally been released! I'm going over it now. I'll be back later to post some of the more interesting names. BTW. Mariah and Nick. Shame on you! Monroe is not a girl's name! Marilyn would have been more appropriate since it's actually related to Mariah. And Moroccan? That's like naming your kid American or Canadian.
